| With everyone spewing vitriol at the deities, I wonder if anyone has stopped to consider the crimes of the imprisoned. I'm not trying to take away from severity of the event, but didn't any of you think, just maybe, they deserved it? Not to such a degree of gunpowder and spilt blood, but there had to be some reason they were there in the first place, right?
Look at the basic facts. Think about your friend that you rescued. Your acquaintance that went down with the building. As much as you care for them, that doesn't negate the fact that their sentence may have been completely deserved. For example, let's take the murderers of the city, since this place is a cesspool of them.
It doesn't matter if they're the actualized, the attempted, or the thought-about-it-but-was-too-pussy-to-do-it type. Sure, they might have repented. But the act of repenting doesn't reverse the action, does it? They may have been remorseful. Same thing. They might have thought it necessary -- an act of noble revenge or whatever the fuck you want to call it. However, necessary is matter of opinion, as much as I hate using the relativism cop-out. And if you're the type that keeps on thinking about killing someone? You're on your way to becoming a bonafide murderer. Perhaps the only ones excluded are the Indirect Murderers, those who've killed people without the actual intention, since they do fall in the gray zone. (And for the City, a gray zone's dark enough to fall into black.) If they weren't your friends, you wouldn't want them wandering your streets, would you?
And concerning the so-called misunderstood criminals, why didn't they just confess to the parole board? You'd think it would be a piece of cake, if they were merely misunderstood. That's the easy ticket out, kids. Yet, some of them stayed. You have to wonder.
Now erase the word "Murderer" and fill in the blank with the crime-of-your-choice. It's like a ad lib game.
[ooc He was in prison this weekend, actually. |D; Didn't murder anyone directly, but ... he was sort-of the cause of some unfortunate events. The gray area. He paroled himself out before t he explosion, but not without some torture prior to that. ;; But Amory's managed to fix that up, though he'll be paying the price later --- co-workers, feel free to note bandages? ] |
