∞ [ accidental video ]

[ What this is is a photograph of an apartment building, couches, lamps, books and tables in their proper place, except for two cats floating in the air. One's upside down, the other is right side up and both seem moderately pissed. Okay, scratch that. Tremendously aggravated. ]

[ Right now this is the Blue Light. Maybe not so theatrical and obviously CGI'ed, but you get the picture. Floating patrons, amber ale and colorful cocktails suspended in mid-air, patrons swimming-- spinning in the air like spacemen in the galley of a rocket ship.

Amory's a little more stable than the rest, floating a few inches off the ground as he mixes together a Tom Collins. The only way this is getting done is with a hand over the top of the cup to keep the drink from leaking out. A bottle of Gin and Seltzer water float handily next to him. Even then, the drink is probably not mixing right, each component like oil on top of water (air, in this case). Thankfully, no one seems to care in the midst of this curse-- or they order other things.]

I thought a flight in a Vomet Comet would be as close to zero gravity I'd get.

[ He's clearly talking to himself, the bar patrons too engaged in catching their floating drinks to bother him. ]

That was fun, this is better.

[ In a tone as though she's just been talking about the daily stock report. Hey, Amory's been here for more than year. He's used to this stuff. ]

[A green-eyed woman drifts in not too long from them; it took her a little bit of Network mining to match the video to the appropriate bar, but not so long that she couldn't drift toward the metropolis and think. Her black hair is floating everywhere, but she tames it down and stuffs it in the back of her shirt. As she dodges a flying bubble of something, she catches a chair and twists herself around to sit.

This...could be a bad plan, but today is as good as ever to look for information. She got used to the stomach-turning free fall sensation far earlier.

He has the air of someone with experience, so she doesn't bother with formalities. Then again, she rarely does.]

An interesting adaptation. I wouldn't have assumed it to work, at first thought.

[ He's putting away a bottle of Bailey's back as she approaches, or at least letting it float amongst the other suspended bottles. While still facing the back of the bar, Amory's caught the new patron from the corner of his eye, as easily as he's catches the words that fall from her mouth. ]

We're in the City. [ Finally floating around, he throws her a quizzical look. ] Think of it as magic.

At this point, they don't need to be mixed. Look at them.

[ He's pointing to several patrons whose mixed drinks have floated apart. Instead of complaining, they've taken to trying each ingredient then the flavors in their own mouth. Troublesome, but sort of fun at the same time. ]

[Oh, Ginny knows. She's having too much fun just laughing at it all, but somehow managing to do her job and keep her clothes clean. Avoiding the floating blobs of liquid is a skill.]

I am looking. I've been doing a bit of the same, too. It's great exercise, chasing your tip across the room.

Have you figured out how to make Guinness not float away when I try to pour it? This guy at one of my tables is getting annoyed that it won't stay in the glass when he is still stuck in his chair.

[He's actually reaching over the bar -- floating of the bar, actually -- to grab at the shards of grass hovering over the two customers. One legal suit prevented. ]
