So.

Um.

I probably wouldn't have put that vine bush out on the balcony if I knew it'd suddenly become a tentacle plant.

I'm just glad that there's a glass do—

[the sounds of a crash]

...

...Well, this is going to be fun.

[If Kate's going to give him a lecture on his appearance, she might as well give hers a minor touch up. Nothing big, just a quick hand through her hair and a swipe of lip gloss since A) she's still dressed decently well from work and B) this isn't a date.]

Eh. It'll have to do.

[Kate's rather impressed, but no way in hell she'll tell him that to his face.]

Now hurry up before dinner hour closes and we get stuck at a hot dog cart

[Or it'll have people convinced they're a married couple since they argue like one.]

You don't even own a tuxedo.

[She's halfway out the door and in the hallway already, bow and arrows slung over her shoulder. Kate just wants to get this over with. Why did she even agree to this?]

Hey, I said I was fine with cheaper Chinese but no, you opened your trap so you have to pay up. Take your punishment like the man you ain't.

[identity profile] girlwithabow.livejournal.com 2009-07-28 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
[If the waitress uses the word "wife," you will see Kate make her cry. She'll make Amory cry too.

Even though he offered and he's the one paying, Kate's leading the trip to the elevator. She glances at him in response to his question as if to say he's stupider than she originally thought.]

Yeah, and?

[Did he really expect her to leave her baby behind? Never.]

[identity profile] girlwithabow.livejournal.com 2009-07-29 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not leaving my baby here.

[If he's going to try and argue her down about it, he'll lose. It's coming with her and that's that.]

[identity profile] girlwithabow.livejournal.com 2009-07-29 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's see if you keep laughing when I shoot you in the ass.

[You know she'd do it.]

sure!

[identity profile] girlwithabow.livejournal.com 2009-07-29 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[Kate says nothing on the way to the restaurant. Rather, she says nothing but insults directed towards him, all the way up entrance of the restaurant. She gets them inside and seated with much of a fuss, not even one about her bow and arrows. It seems like the hostess is used to seeing weird people and even weirder weapons in the City.]

We're here. Remember which fork is which and no belching, you pig.

[A small part of her hopes he has at least a little home training. No embarrassment for her tonight.]

[identity profile] girlwithabow.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah right. First minute I start trusting anything you say, I'm committing myself.

[Kate watches him suspiciously when he tugs the chair out. Not that she's surprised that chivalry still exists, but that it's Amory who's doing it. The decent French is just the cherry on top.]

If you pull this chair from under me, I swear I will kick your ass into next Tuesday.

[identity profile] girlwithabow.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Because you're an asshole.

[Maybe she's slightly impressed, but once again, she's not telling him this to his face.

For now, she ignores her dining companion to peruse the menu and find the most expensive and edible thing on the menu, just to mess with him.]

[identity profile] girlwithabow.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Kate continues to ignore him while she orders a chicken dish that runs along the lower end of the price scale. As much as she wants to bug him, her principles about finances come into play and she just can't bear to feed into the restaurant's materialism just to prove her point.

She even goes as far to order a inexpensive glass of the house wine. Hey, if the waiter isn't going to check IDs, she's going to play up her appearance to look a good three years older than she actually is.]

It's not proof if you're just pretending not to be a pig.

[identity profile] girlwithabow.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
At least he never actually sent you to finishing school like some others.

[Not that her own father had actually done that--her mom was her etiquette teacher--but Kate had heard stories from other kids from fellow well-to-do families. Horrible ones that made her grateful that her dad is a workaholic and her mother was too down to earth to care much about charm school and the like.]

What about your mom?

[Kate, even though she doesn't say anything, notices that for once, Amory speaks freely about his father. This is a new step for him, between them. The argument in the hospital seems so far away.]

[identity profile] girlwithabow.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds like my parents. Dad's always trying to keep his money up. Mom spent most of her time doing charity work. I guess it was the whole opposites attract type thing with them.

[Kate never gave her parents' marriage much thought until it was prematurely ended by her mother's murder. She always assumed it was a marriage that started off fine and then went off into the range of staying together because it was what they were used to. The truth about how much they loved each other slapped her in the face in the aftermath of her mom's absence when her dad fell to pieces in the only way he knew how: he worked.]

Ever thought of getting married?

[identity profile] girlwithabow.livejournal.com 2009-08-06 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
They did. Until she died. Then Dad all went to shit over her.

[He wasn't the only one who was broken up about her mother dying, but Kate's not saying that much. Not right now. Last thing she wants to do is cry in public.]

I thought about it when my sister was getting married, but never serious. It was mostly about how much money I wasn't going to spend on a one day thing like she was doing.

[This isn't to say that Kate wouldn't like to get married, but she's still young after all. She's not even twenty yet and really, her prospects aren't the marriage type. Who is she going to get hitched to? Eli? Please.]
