Oh. That's not all you though. You're never completely that way to me. So that means that you can change it.

My life's changed so much since I got better. Hardly anything is the same. I don't like that all the time, but it's nothing I can control. I should like life as it is right now. I'm healthy and free.

I don't see any reason to change. I'm satisfied with the person I am, and besides, me actually being nice to everyone? Seems utterly impossible and dreadfully boring.

[Truth be told, he wouldn't be offended if she did lie. Amory did it often enough himself, simply because an easy, white lie was useful for fixing any situation. He rarely meant anything malicious by it.]

You'll get used to it eventually, I'm sure. It must be strange, but as you said, you're free. I suggest going traveling sometime when you return home.
